Lions Fall Short in Defensive Battle, Drop 1-0 Decision to Montreat

DAYTON, Tenn. – Despite outshooting their opponents by nearly four-to-one, the Bryan College Lions fell 1-0 to visiting Montreat on Saturday afternoon at their home pitch.

The Lions (1-9-1, 1-5-1 in conference) dominated possession and offensive opportunities, firing 30 shots compared to Montreat's eight, but couldn't convert their chances into goals. Forward Beckham Davidson led Bryan's attack with seven shots, four of which were on target, while Josh Hernandez added seven attempts of his own.

The match's lone goal came at the 12:30 mark of the first half when Montreat's Alejandro Hernandez found the net with an assist from Jared McCall. The goal proved to be all the Cavaliers (3-8-1, 2-4-1) would need.

Bryan goalkeeper Justus Feit had a relatively quiet afternoon, making four saves on five shots on goal, while his counterpart Frankie Zavala was forced into heroics for Montreat. Zavala faced a barrage of Bryan attempts, turning away 14 shots to earn his second win of the season.

The Lions controlled the corner kick battle 7-3 and maintained offensive pressure throughout the match, particularly in the second half when they unleashed 18 shots. Connor Stiles, Caleb Randles, and Clayton Encinias each contributed multiple shot attempts, with Stiles putting two on frame from his four tries.

Bryan nearly equalized when Hernandez hit the post at the 60:54 mark of the second half, one of several near-misses that would define the afternoon for the home side.

The Lions will look to regroup as they continue their conference schedule, searching for ways to convert their offensive opportunities into results.
