Lady Lions Basketball Opens Kentucky Bluegrass Classic with Victory Over Oakland City

Owensboro, KY – The Bryan College Lady Lions roared out of the gates in their tournament opener at Brescia, cruising to a commanding 93-61 victory over Oakland City University on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Lions (2-0) never trailed after the opening minutes, building a 22-13 first-quarter advantage and systematically pulling away from the Mighty Oaks (0-1) throughout the contest. Bryan's largest lead reached 34 points late in the fourth quarter, showcasing the team's depth and balanced attack.

Bryan's reserves made the difference, outscoring Oakland City's bench 54-20 in what proved to be a decisive factor. Sophomore guard Alivia Hall led all scorers with 14 points off the bench, connecting on an impressive 4-of-5 from three-point range in just 15 minutes of action.

"I'm proud of our bench and how well they shot today," said Head Coach Matt Bollant, as multiple reserves contributed significantly to the victory.
Junior Brooklyn Stinnett added 9 points, hitting all three of her three-point attempts, while junior Ashlyn Plott chipped in 10 points on efficient shooting.

The Lions featured seven players scoring six or more points, demonstrating their offensive versatility. Starters Autumn Davis and Leah Stinnett each contributed 9 points, with Davis adding 3 assists and Stinnett grabbing 4 rebounds. Molly Brown scored 8 points and made all six of her free throw attempts, while Ashlan Crittenden added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the starting lineup.

Bryan's defensive pressure forced 24 Oakland City turnovers, converting them into 30 points. The Lions recorded 14 steals and held the Mighty Oaks to just 42.6% shooting from the field. The Lions also dominated the glass, outrebounding Oakland City 41-25, which led to 15 second-chance points compared to just 6 for the visitors.

After leading 42-32 at halftime, Bryan exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Oakland City 29-14 to effectively put the game out of reach. The Lions shot a blistering 70% from three-point range in the period, with Hall and Stinnett combining for five triples. "I thought we played a really good third quarter tonight," noted Bollant. "That was the differene in the game," he added

Bryan College will look to build on this impressive performance, having shot 43.9% from the field overall and 38.7% from beyond the arc while making 76.7% of their free throws. The Lions' 13 fast-break points to Oakland City's zero underscored their tempo and transition advantage throughout the contest.
The victory marks a strong start for the Lady Lions. They will play tomorrow against Midway at 6:00 pm Eastern time.
