Lady Lions Fall to CIU in Straight Sets on the Road

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Bryan College Lions struggled offensively in a 3-0 loss to Columbia International University on Friday evening, dropping their conference record to 1-13.

CIU dominated the match from start to finish, winning by scores of 25-22, 25-14, and 25-13 to improve to 16-6 overall and 11-2 in conference play.
The Lions (2-29, 1-13) fought competitively in the opening set, trailing by just three at 22-25, but couldn't maintain that momentum as the Rams pulled away decisively in the final two frames.

Bryan College managed just 29 kills on 100 total attacks with 23 errors, finishing with a .060 hitting percentage for the match. The team's attack efficiency declined as the match progressed, posting a .321 mark in the first set before dropping to -.075 in the second and .000 in the third.

Bella Beard led the Lions with 8 kills but committed 6 errors on 22 attempts (.091). Shelby Kelly added 6 kills but struggled with accuracy, hitting -.037 with 7 errors. Leah Lindquist contributed 5 kills on a .118 hitting percentage.

The Rams were efficient throughout, hitting .376 as a team with 44 kills and just 9 errors. Zcearia James paced CIU with 11 kills on a .556 hitting percentage, while Mary Norwood also tallied 11 kills at a .500 clip. Eevy Bellar was nearly flawless with 9 kills on 12 attempts (.667), adding 3 solo blocks.

Kaci Wade orchestrated the Lions' offense with 15 assists and added 2 service aces. Maya Gipson contributed 11 assists. Maria Ferreira controlled the tempo for CIU with a match-high 15 assists and added 3 service aces during a dominant stretch in the third set.

The Lady Lions play again tomorrow against Spartanburg Methodist at 11:00 AM.
