Dayton, TN – The Lady Lions soccer team was unable to find their offensive rhythm on Wednesday evening, falling 4-0 to visiting Johnson University at home.
Despite a valiant defensive effort from goalkeeper
Katie Finch, who recorded eight saves on the night, the Lions struggled to generate scoring opportunities against a relentless Johnson attack.
The Royals struck first in the 25th minute when Emilia Daugherty found the back of the net off an assist from Ainsley Ballard to give Johnson a 1-0 halftime advantage.
Johnson extended their lead in the second half, with Aubrey Felice taking over the match. The Royals' forward netted three consecutive goals, with assists from her teammates at 71:06 and two unassisted strikes at 87:07 and 88:49 to seal the 4-0 victory.
Bryan managed just four shots on the evening compared to Johnson's 14, with only two finding the target.
Carmen Verdel led the Lions' offensive efforts with two shots, including one on goal, while
Katie Ryan added another shot on target in the second half.
The Lions generated three corner kick opportunities but were unable to capitalize on any of them. Johnson, meanwhile, converted their offensive pressure into three corner kicks of their own.
Finch was kept busy throughout the match, facing 12 shots on goal and making eight saves to keep the score respectable. On the other end, Johnson goalkeeper Brenna Benke needed just two saves to preserve the shutout.
Bryan will look to regroup as they prepare for their next match against Tennessee Wesleyan.
