Bryan Falls to Johnson in Four Sets, Drops to 0-5 in Conference Play

KNOXVILLE, TN – Bryan College's difficult season continued Tuesday night as the Lions fell 3-1 to Johnson University, dropping their overall record to 1-20 and remaining winless in conference play at 0-5.

Despite winning the opening set 25-22, Bryan couldn't maintain momentum as Johnson rallied to take the next three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-10).

Shelby Kelly led the Lions' offensive effort with 11 kills, while Leah Lindquist added six.

The Lions showed flashes of promise in the opening set, with Ashley Marshall delivering three crucial service aces during a pivotal stretch that helped Bryan build a lead. However, the team's attack efficiency told the story of the match – Bryan hit just .007 for the contest compared to Johnson's .212.

Defensively, Elise Brew anchored the back row with 14 digs, while Avery Baxter contributed 10 digs along with six assists. Setter Maya Gipson distributed 12 assists and added nine digs in the losing effort.

Maddison Seabolt contributed two kills but also registered six block assists, showing defensive presence at the net despite the team's offensive struggles.

Johnson (15-3, 4-0) was led by Abigail Brown's 13 kills and Makiyah Greenlee's 12 kills, while setter Caelyn Marshall orchestrated the offense with 20 assists and added four service aces, including several that came during crucial scoring runs.

Bryan continues searching for answers in what has been a challenging campaign for the program. They will return to Summers Gymnasium for Homecoming Weekend on Friday night as they take on Montreat College.
