Bryan Cross Country Kicks Off Season at Mountainside Stride

The Bryan College cross country teams opened their season at the Mountainside Stride, hosted by Covenant College in Chattanooga on August 30th. It was a memorable race, marked by a lengthy lightning delay and some standout performances.

Men's Team Takes Third Place
The men's team secured a third-place finish overall, led by senior Zachary Sever, who clocked a time of 19:51.6 in the 6K, earning him a solid third place individually. Despite the challenges of the race, including an hour and a half lightning delay, the men pushed through, with Devin Henderson and Samuel Olsen also contributing strong performances to the team's total score of 90 points.

Women's Team Faces Tough Competition

On the women's side, the team faced stiff competition and finished sixth overall. However, there was a bright spot as Kennedy Groves achieved a personal best, shaving over three minutes off her previous time in the 6K. This impressive improvement highlights her dedication and hard work.

Coach Jasper Wilson's Take
Reflecting on the race, Coach Jasper Wilson shared, "Yes, Zach did great. The standout moment for me was Kennedy Groves achieving a personal best by over three minutes in the 6K. We encountered an hour and a half lightning delay, which added to the experience. It wasn't everything we hoped for, but it was definitely a memorable first race."

Looking Ahead
The Lions next race will be in Huntsville, AL September 13th for the Southern Showcase.
