Lions Take Game 3 of Wesleyan Series

Athens, TN - The Bryan College baseball team took on the #22 ranked Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs in a three game series over the weekend. The Lions took 1 of the 3 games, saving their best for last as they defeated TWU 7-5 Saturday afternoon. Cam Harvey (3-2) took the win with 7 IP, 3 strikeouts, and 100 pitches thrown. The Lions fell in game one Thursday 8-6, and game two Saturday 5-1.
After the series the Lions are 17-14 overall and 8-9 in conference.

Game 1
Clay Smith started the game strong only giving up 1 run through 4 IP as the Lions took a 3 to 1 lead in 4th after a Daniel Dryden Single would bring in Bryson Lofton. Then followed up with a Cade Cook double that would bring home Kade Cohoon and Dryden. In the top of the 5th a two run homer from Lofton would give Bryan a 5-1 lead.

It was the bottom of the 5th where the Bulldogs would turn the game around. After several walks, a few hits, and 2 wild pitches the Bulldogs would tie it up 5 to 5 headed into the top of the 6th.
The Bulldogs would have another big inning in the 7th they hit back to back homeruns to start the inning. Then eventually scoring one more on a single to center field.
Daniel Dryden, who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs on the day, would try and give life to Lions one more time with a solo home run in the top of the 8th to bring the Lions within two, 8 to 6. But that would cap off the day as no one else would cross home plate in the 9th.

Game 2
Game Two would begin Saturday at 1:00 PM and TWU pitchers would control the game throughout, and the Lions would only get two hits in the early game.
TWU would go up 3-0 after three due to pitching errors and Wesleyan base running. In the top of the 4th Kade Cohoon's sacrifice fly would bring in Bryson Lofton for the only score for the Lions in game 2.
Harrison Price would begin the day on the mound for the Lions facing 5 batters with 0 ER. Landon Lee (1-1) would take the loss on the day with 2.0 IP, 1 strikeout, and 3 ER. David Walker would go 5 IP, 2 strikeouts, and only give up 1 ER in the afternoon.

Game 3
It was a big day on the mound for 5th year Senior Cameron Harvey (W, 3-2). Harvey's 7 IP, 3 strikeouts and 100 pitches thrown would help Bryan take the final game of the series 8 to 6.
It was all Lions early after a struggle in game 2. In the top of the 1st, Bryson Lofton would hit a 2 run home run to bring in Tyler Cullen.  This is Lofton's 12th home run of the season, which ties him for 1st in the AAC. After a few TWU errors Dante Morton would come home for the 3rd bryan score. Bradley Prince would cap off the five run 1st inning for the Lions with a 2 RBI single to left field, bringing home Cook and Cohoon to give Bryan a 5-0 lead.

Dante Morton's single in the 2nd inning would bring in Alex Rollins to extended the lead 6-0 for Bryan. Harvey and the Lions defense would shut down the Bulldogs through 4 innings. The Bulldogs would start to make a rally in the 5th after a 2 RBI double, followed by a sacrifice fly. TWU would get one more in the 6th on a single to center to make it a 6-4 ball game in favor Bryan.

Tyler Cullen would bring in Logan Stradley in the top of the 7th to give Bryan one more run going into the final inning. Wesleyan would make one more attempt and bring home their 5th run, but it was too little too late as the Lions defense held strong. Lions take the game 7 to 5.
