Baugher and Grimes Lead Lions Past Rival TWU


ATHENS,TN -  Sophomore Josh Baugher and senior Caleb Grimes stuffed the stat lines to lead Bryan Men's basketball past the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs 66-50. With the win the Lions move to 12-9 Overall and 10-8 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. That's 3 in a row and 60 the last 7. The Lions are 6-2 in January with one game left to go Wednesday at UPike. 

Baugher led the team in scoring with 17 points, while grabbing 7 rebounds, handing out 5 assists, and 2 steals. "The guys gave me good looks down low. I've had a lot of faith put me, and trust put in me the last couple of days by the coaching staff. Just confident in my looks down low" said Baugher after the game.

Caleb Grimes who also shined had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Freshman Caden Johnson would be next in line with 9 points and 4 rebounds. Junior Kheller Die would also have an efficient night with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist. 

The Lion's key to victory was winning the Turnover battle 15 to 7. The Lions defensive pressure turned into 8 steals and forcing several Bulldog mishandles. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half:
  • The Bulldog's Peyton West would go 4-5 from behind the arc in the first half.  
  • It was a back and forth affair early between the Lions and Bulldogs, but TWU extended the lead to 6 points (30-24) with 3:00 minutes left.
  • After TWU's run, Bryan would answer with a 9-0 run of their own to end the half capped off with Caleb Grimes layup in the final seconds to give Bryan a 33-30 lead.

2nd Half:
  • An 8-0 run in the middle of the 2nd half started and ended with Baugher jump shots, would help extend the Lions lead by nine 45-36 with 11:22 left in the half. 
  • After back to back jumpers from Caden Johnson and Josh Baugher, the Lions would go up double digits and never look back. 
  • The Lions would only give up 20 total points in the 2nd half. Holding TWU to 32% shooting and 16.7% from three. 

Looking Forward
The Lions are travel to Pikeville, KY to take on the University of Pikeville Bears Wednesday night January 31st at 7:30 PM.
