Lions Upset #3 Union To Advance To AAC Conference Championship

Kingsport, TN - The Bryan College Men's Basketball team traveled up to Kingsport, TN to take on Union College in the AAC Conference semifinal. The Lions kept the game close in the first half of play going into halftime trailing a manageable 32-28. The Lions came out in the second half renewed and ready to compete. Despite foul trouble the Lions were able to outscore the Bulldogs 39-33. Trailing by as much as 11 with ten minutes left to go in the game the Lions pushed onward refusing to back down. Bryan fought back from the 11 point deficit cutting the lead to just 2 with 2 minutes and some change left to play in regulation. With two layups by Trey Morrow the Lions were able to go ahead by 1 point with 32 seconds left. With a costly turnover by Union the Lions took full advantage of the mishap and drove down to draw a foul with 14 seconds left. After the two made free throws by Ian Johnson the Lions led by 3 with just mere seconds left to play. Another costly turnover by the Bulldogs put Bryan in a perfect position to close the game out. Trey Morrow hit a layup with 6 seconds left in regulation and was fouled by Union. Morrow connected for 1 but missed the last one. Union managed to score as the clock hit zero but it was too late. The Lions upset the number 3 team in the nation to advance to the AAC Conference Championship game. 


INSIDE THE BOX 
  • Ian Johnson led the Lions with 16 points, 2 steals, 3 assists, and 7 rebounds. 
  • Trey Morrow recorded 15 points, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 assist, and 4 rebounds. 
  • Noah Mulaski tallied 13 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds. 
  • Jamari Bostic recorded 15 rebounds, 2 offensive and 13 defensive. 


NEXT TIME OUT 
  • The Lions will compete in the AAC Conference Tournament Championship on February 25th at 3:00 PM against CIU.
